Surgery
At Long Island Comprehensive Medical Care, our General Surgery and Vascular Surgery departments provide expert care for a wide range of conditions requiring surgical intervention. With the combined expertise of Dr. Jason Schneider and Dr. Michael Chu, we are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.
General Surgery Services We Offer:
In addition to the vascular surgeries, Dr. Schneider offers a wide variety of general surgery procedures, many of which are performed using minimally invasive techniques:
Whether inguinal, umbilical, or ventral, hernia repairs are common surgeries performed to correct protrusions of tissue through the abdominal wall.
For patients with gallstones or gallbladder disease, this procedure removes the gallbladder to prevent recurring pain or infections.
A common emergency surgery for patients with appendicitis, which is the inflammation of the appendix.
Minimally invasive surgery using small incisions and cameras for faster recovery. Procedures include the removal of diseased organs, biopsies, and other abdominal surgeries.
We also offer surgical interventions for thyroid conditions, including nodules and cancer, to improve symptoms or prevent complications.
For patients with colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or diverticulitis, Dr. Schneider provides surgical treatments, including colon resections.
When Should You See a General or Vascular Surgeon?
You should see a vascular surgeon if you experience symptoms such as:
- Leg pain or cramping, especially when walking or exercising, which could be a sign of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD).
- Swollen, varicose veins that are painful or affect circulation.
- Wounds or ulcers on the legs or feet that don’t heal, which may be a result of poor circulation or diabetes.
- Abnormal blood flow signs, such as a pulse in your neck (for carotid artery disease) or abdominal discomfort (for aortic aneurysms).
You should see a general surgeon if you have:
- Persistent abdominal pain or digestive issues that don’t resolve on their own.
- Hernias, especially if they become painful, bulging, or enlarging.
- Gallbladder issues such as pain after eating, nausea, or vomiting that might indicate gallstones.
- Thyroid problems, such as a noticeable lump or difficulty swallowing, which could be a sign of a thyroid disorder or cancer.
- Acute appendicitis, which presents as severe abdominal pain and nausea requiring immediate surgery.
